General Recommendation For Eye Care

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Eyewash is a fluid, commonly saline, used in the aid of rinsing of the eye. Eyewash may also describe the apparatus used to physically wash the eyes in the case that they may be contaminated by foreign materials or substances.

Eyewashes may be beneficial to those with sensitive eyes and can provide relief to the painful side effects of sensitivity.

• If you have dry eyes, you will probably feel a strong temptation to rub them. Don’t. Normal eyes respond to rubbing by tearing, but dry eyes cannot. Rubbing only adds to the irritation.

• If your inside environment is dry, use a humidifier to add moisture to the air.

• Protect your eyes from breezes, which can worsen symptoms. Wear wraparound sunglasses.

• Shield your eyes as much as possible when using a hair dryer, or let your hair dry naturally.
Hot air coming from a hair dryer can dry the surface of your eyes very quickly.

• Avoid anything that can irritate your eyes, especially smoke. Whether it comes from a cigarette or a sweet smelling wood fire, smoke is very hard on the eyes and worsens symptoms.
